A Message from the School PrincipalCara L. Hurd, Midland School #1 Principal

Dear Midland School Families,

Welcome to Midland School #1. The 2012-2013 school year is off to a great start! It has been wonderful to start each day with the smiling faces of our students as they arrive to school every morning. Throughout the day students are exposed to a rich educational program based on the Core Curriculum State Standards, as well as special areas such as: music, art, technology, media center, and physical education and health. A number of extracurricular activities are offered during various seasons of the year. At this time we have volleyball, student tutors, boys and girls chorus, computer club, newspaper, yearbook, student council, and National Junior Honor Society.

The teachers and staff here at Midland are very dedicated to educating your children and building a foundation of knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their future endeavors. Recently, the Language Arts and Mathematics curriculums in grades K-5 were revised and aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum State Standards. In order to implement the new curriculum effectively, we have purchased a new series in Language Arts, Reading Street and in Mathematics, GO Math.

An important component to your child’s education is open and consistent communication between school and home. Each Thursday we send a virtual folder through an email blast that contains important information and notices for parents. Another valuable tool we use is the Genesis Parent Portal for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade parents. The parent portal gives parents access to their child’s grades, attendance records and daily schedule. The instructions to sign up for the email distribution list and the Genesis Parent Portal can be found on our website, http://rp.bergen.org under the “For Parents” section.

I look forward to working closely together with the community, Rochelle Park families, and teachers and staff to provide for our students the best education we possibly can!

Sincerely,

Cara L. Hurd

Principal
